Les Îles Nature Reserve: an oasis of peace and biodiversity in the Aosta Valley

Autore: Redazione 01/08/2025 09:47

Between the municipalities of Brissogne, Nus, Quart, and Saint-Marcel, the Les Îles Nature Reserve appears as a corner of unspoiled nature in the heart of the Aosta Valley, just a stone's throw from the Dora Baltea river. This reserve is based on a wetland area of 35.4 hectares, situated at an altitude between 526 and 532 meters, and is a mosaic of renaturalized quarry lakes, reed beds, and riparian landscapes that tell the story of a unique ecosystem.

Les Îles is a true paradise for birdwatching enthusiasts, hosting migratory birds, white herons, purple herons, little egrets, and numerous species of ducks, while among the sedentary species, the mallard, the coot, and the marsh warbler stand out, hidden among the marsh vegetation. It is also possible to spot the rare Typha minima, a plant typical of swamps, which has now disappeared in the region. And if you absolutely do not want to disturb the animal tranquility, you can follow the "Ciclovia Baltea," a cycle-pedestrian path that crosses the reserve. Near the park, there is also the Palafent, an area dedicated to traditional Aosta Valley sports such as tsan and fiolet, and the Aosta Brissogne Golf Club, with its 9 holes immersed in the green surroundings of the Les Îles reserve.

The main path, flat and about 4.5 km long, is accessible to everyone and features observation posts for birdwatching enthusiasts or for those who want to enjoy the breathtaking landscapes. Easily reachable from Aosta by following State Road 26 up to the Brissogne bridge, the reserve is perfect in spring and autumn, when nature awakens and sightings are more frequent. It is an invitation to discover an authentic Aosta Valley, where nature and tradition merge in an unforgettable embrace.
