Zomaro Nature Reserve: a hidden corner in the mountains of Calabria

Autore: Redazione 21/08/2025 17:01

There is a place in Calabria where time stands still. Still relatively unknown, the Zomaro Nature Reserve, nestled in the mountains of Ionian Calabria, a few kilometers from Stilo, is home to lush forests and clear streams, offering an immersive experience in nature.

The mosaic created by the forests of larch, beech, and conifer trees extends along slopes and valleys, and with its bright colors in spring and muted tones in autumn, enhances the well-maintained but wild trails that allow you to explore every corner of the park with almost obsessive logic.

The waterfalls and springs are the real natural protagonists of Zomaro and are perfect places to stop for a small picnic with the family. It is the ideal environment for those looking for a place to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of city life and rediscover the beauty of nature and silence, which is interrupted only by the chirping of birds and the water crashing against the rocks.

The paths were once used by shepherds and farmers, reflecting the humble nature of the park. In fact, you can also see the terraces and ruins that were once an integral part of rural life in Calabria. So Zomaro is also something that perhaps tells us more than what we see on the surface.

Visiting the Zomaro Nature Reserve means coming into contact with the most authentic Calabria, where pure water and fresh mountain air make you forget the troubles of life. It is a place that knows how to surprise you, a place that knows how to get under your skin.

From Stilo, it is easy to reach the reserve by following the provincial road towards the mountains. The Zomaro Reserve is one of Calabria's natural gems that leaves a lasting impression on those who discover it.
