From May 8, 2026 to January 6, 2027 the Museo Civico of Rieti (archaeological section) hosts the exhibition "Wearing History. Before Rome: the mark of the sword, the weight of the shield." The show examines the use and cultural meaning of weapons and armor among Italic communities through original finds and scientifically informed reproductions.
The exhibition provides both technical and cultural perspectives. Weapons, shields and armor fragments are displayed alongside modern reconstructions that clarify materials, finishes and construction techniques. The layout encourages a sensory approach to highlight practical functions, craftsmanship and the symbolic role of these objects in defining social rank and identity.
Visitors can learn about manufacturing techniques, decorative details and the social or ritual contexts in which panoplies were used. Educational pathways and clear captions help make the content accessible to non-specialist audiences.
For opening hours, ticket information and access rules contact the museum or the organizers directly at [email protected] or +39 335 431722. The exhibition venue is located at Via Sant'Anna 4, Rieti.
