Punta Prosciutto: the Caribbean of Salento where time stops

If you are looking for crystal-clear sea, shallow water for meters, and white sands, there is no need to travel to the Tropics: just go to Punta Prosciutto, in Puglia. It is a coastal frazione of Porto Cesareo, and it is one of the most loved seaside destinations in Salento. And it is certainly not a coincidence: this is where peace and beauty meet in a breathtaking whirlwind.

Punta Prosciutto is located on the border between the provinces of Lecce and Taranto and is protected by the Palude del Conte e Duna Costiera Nature Reserve. The light strikes immediately, as it is blinding, vivid, reflected by the light and very fine sand. The sea, on the other hand, is almost always calm, an intense blue that belies its transparency.

It is the ideal destination for those seeking a dreamy sea without having to take an intercontinental flight to the Caribbean. Perfect for families with children thanks to the shallow and gentle seabed, or for those who love walking along the shore or relaxing in one of the many free sections, enjoying the silence between one swim and the next. And for those who don't just want relaxation, there are also bars, restaurants, beach establishments, but also uncontaminated stretches where nature dominates. The dunes, up to 8 meters high, are covered with Mediterranean scrub: an ecosystem to be protected.

Punta Prosciutto is one of the most beautiful beaches in Italy, yet it manages to maintain a balance between tourism and nature. It is an ideal destination for those who want a Caribbean sea, for those who want to stay away from crowds and discos, for those who love waking up early to dive into the silence. And moreover, it is in a perfect location: from here you can easily reach Torre Lapillo, Porto Cesareo, Avetrana, Gallipoli, and even Lecce in less than an hour.

From Porto Cesareo, take the SP122 north. The signs for Punta Prosciutto are clear. It is advisable to arrive very early in the summer months to find parking near the beach (there are both paid and free options, often on dirt roads).
