Agreement signed between Fondazione Sicana, SICILBANCA and SOS Sicilia Centrale for cultural and environmental projects

7 April 2026 — A protocol was signed by SICILBANCA, the Fondazione Sicana and associations grouped within SOS Sicilia Centrale to promote cultural protection, environmental care and local regeneration projects in the provinces of Caltanissetta and Enna.

The agreement links the cooperative banking model, the foundation's philanthropic role and the territorial presence of local associations to support annual projects, cultural initiatives and dedicated financial tools. Key goals include safeguarding cultural and environmental assets, promoting sustainable local routes and strengthening civic participation.

• SOS Sicilia Centrale network: includes Pro Loco Caltanissetta APS, Italia Nostra APS – Sicilia, Alchimia, Associazione Archeologica Nissena, SiciliAntica, Società Dante Alighieri – Caltanissetta committee, Studi Storici Siciliani and other local organizations.
• Operational tools: support for annual projects, promotion of cultural and social initiatives, access to dedicated financial instruments, creation of local networks for project continuity.
• First initiative: enhancement of the Monumento ai Caduti in Caltanissetta, including cultural and educational redevelopment, a thematic route on WWII bombing sites and plans for a museum on the two world wars.
• Youth engagement: a literary contest for primary and secondary schools to deepen knowledge of local history.

The signing, held at SICILBANCA's headquarters, was accompanied by calls to reinforce cooperation between associations and local institutions to ensure continuity and effectiveness of interventions. A guided visit to the historic Palazzo delle Poste, with references to artist Gino Morici, was also part of the event.

Outlook: the protocol is designed as an open instrument allowing other associations to join and contribute to the long-term protection and enhancement of Central Sicily's cultural and environmental heritage.
