Italian Post: passports can be requested in about 7,500 post offices

Poste Italiane has completed the nationwide rollout of passport issuance and renewal through post offices participating in the Polis project and in several urban branches. The initiative seeks to simplify access to public administration services, especially for residents of municipalities with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants.

• Enabled offices: all 6,932 Polis offices plus 431 offices in large cities, for a total of about 7,500 locations.
• Documents issued: roughly 206,000 passports, of which 156,000 were issued in Polis municipalities.
• Home delivery: chosen by about 80% of residents in small towns.
• Project timeline: Polis launched in January 2023, with passport service piloted in March 2024.
• Agreement: the service follows a convention between Poste Italiane, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy.
• Economic and social impact: total investment of €1.2 billion, with reported benefits for GDP and employment.

The initiative aims to counter the loss of services in internal areas and promote digital inclusion, allowing citizens to obtain passports without going to the local police headquarters.
