Sea, mountains, and history intertwine in a treasure chest of wonder in the heart of the Eastern Ligurian Riviera. The Portofino Regional Natural Park offers a world made of ancient trails, dizzying views, and hidden coves with an intact charm. The park is crossed by paths that intertwine like veins, connecting locations like Santa Margherita Ligure, San Fruttuoso, Camogli, and Portofino itself. It is only 1500 hectares in size, yet it is one of the most spectacular places in Italy.
The trail from Portofino to San Fruttuoso is one of the most traveled sections, offering breathtaking glimpses of the sea below. Along the way, you encounter ancient ruins, until you reach the Abbey of San Fruttuoso, where only the sound of the waves breaks the silence. And after an entire mountain journey, paradise awaits you. The protected marine area safeguards crystal-clear seabed, and a few meters deep in the Bay of San Fruttuoso lies the Christ of the Abyss, one of the park's symbols.
Portofino Park is also history and culture. Fortifications, ancient mills, and Saracen towers tell centuries of pilgrimages and battles. The park is also well-known abroad and enjoys international fame. Despite this, many trails remain largely untrodden, such as the Valle dei Mulini (Valley of the Mills), known only to a select few.
The cliffs between Punta Chiappa and Cala d'Oro are also ideal for exploring the park in spring and autumn, when tourism slows down. The Portofino Natural Park is not just a day trip, but an immersion in an authentic, rare Liguria that few know.
