Pordenone 2027: "Culture That Cares"

The dossier Pordenone 2027. The City That Surprises features the multi-year initiative "Culture That Cares", launched in 2025 and designed to develop, over several years, a structured relationship between culture, health and local welfare.

• Goal: integrate artistic and cultural practices into care pathways and local welfare to improve quality of life.
• Lead organisations: Azienda Sanitaria Friuli Occidentale (AsFO), Centro di Riferimento Oncologico di Aviano (CRO) and Istituto Flora of Pordenone.
• Planned activities: social prescribing, art therapy, writing workshops, exhibitions and projects aimed at patients, families, students and professionals.
• Approach: build an integrated network between health services, social services and cultural actors in the territory.

According to Cultural Councillor Alberto Parigi, the project is "an innovative, concrete and multi-year initiative" that can leave a lasting legacy. Social Policy Councillor Guglielmina Cucci highlights the shift toward a cultural welfare model that places the person at the centre.

The initiative builds on practices such as narrative medicine and the writing lab "Shared Stories" and aims to strengthen training and collaboration among health, cultural and educational operators. As part of the bid for Italian Capital of Culture 2027, it seeks to consolidate culture's role as a driver of social cohesion and prevention.
