Passo di Pramollo and Mangart Saddle: where Italy touches Austria and Slovenia

Autore: Redazione 01/08/2025 08:33

For those who love high altitudes, the Passo di Pramollo, also known as Nassfeld Pass, and the nearby Mangart Saddle, are among the most spectacular places in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. We are in the extreme northeast of Italy, on the border between Austria and Slovenia, where the Carnic and Julian Alps seem to tell ancient stories and nature presents itself in all its power. The Passo di Pramollo offers an unforgettable alpine view, accessible from Tarvisio along a panoramic road that looks like it came straight out of a car advertisement.

It is located at about 1530 meters in altitude and is a paradise for those who love high-altitude nature, as well as winter sports. In fact, in winter, it becomes a ski resort and is also among the most appreciated in Friuli, as well as in Italy, with its modern and well-equipped slopes. In summer, however, it transforms into a paradise for hikers and for those who love mountain biking and climbing.

The proximity to the border makes everything even more fascinating, as it is just a few steps from Austria and Slovenia, which gives it an international aura. Just a short distance away is the Mangart Saddle, or Sella del Mangart, which is another unmissable place. From the saddle, you can admire the Mangart massif, which is one of the most imposing mountains in the Julian Alps, and descending instead, you head towards the Laghi di Fusine.

Here is the highest panoramic road in Slovenia, which rises to over 2,000 meters. Among these mountains is also the Bridge of Peace (Ponte della Pace), which is a symbolic passage connecting three countries. It is the perfect place for those seeking adventures, epic panoramas, and an experience among Alpine cultures.
