Easter week at Rome’s museums (1–6 April 2026)
For Holy Week, Rome’s municipal museums and archaeological sites present a full program of special openings, guided tours, workshops and family activities. The initiative is coordinated by Roma Capitale, the Department of Culture and the Capitoline Superintendency, in collaboration with Zètema Progetto Cultura.
Openings, free entry and reservations
Musei Civici will remain open, including Easter Monday. Admission is free on Easter Sunday (the first Sunday of the month). Several special visits require mandatory reservation: for details and bookings call 060608. Reservations for the Palazzo Senatorio guided tours open on Thursday 2 April 2026 at 16:00.
Featured guided tours
- Palazzo Senatorio (Capitoline Hill) — guided tours on Sunday 5 April 2026. Four Italian-language sessions (10:00, 11:30, 15:00, 16:30), approx. 75 minutes each, max 30 participants per session. Booking required at 060608.
Educational activities for children and teens
The program includes many events for younger visitors: themed trails, treasure hunts, storytelling and hands-on workshops. Highlights include:
- La Valle delle Camene — Wednesday 1 April, 15:00: a route on the Celian Hill exploring the legendary springs and nymphs.
- Pleistocene Easter treasure hunt — Thursday 2 April, 10:00, Museo di Casal de’ Pazzi: family activity for children aged 6–10 after a visit to the prehistoric site.
- Easter with the GAM masterpieces — Thursday 2 April, 16:30, Galleria d’Arte Moderna: a tour celebrating the gallery’s centenary (GAM 100).
- Orpheus, the melancholic magician — Thursday 2 April, 16:30, Centrale Montemartini: storytelling and a creative workshop for children aged 7–11.
- From Casina Boccapaduli to the Aventine — Friday 3 April, 11:00: a new itinerary linking the recently reopened Casina Vignola Boccapaduli with Parco Savello.
- Attention to detail — Friday 3 April, 16:00, Museo Napoleonico: an experiential visit focused on everyday objects, art and furniture.
- Transparent landscapes — Saturday 4 April, 11:00, Casina delle Civette: a visit about naturalist motifs in Liberty-style decorations and stained glass.
- Contemporary art in Villa Borghese — Saturday 4 April, 16:00, Museo Carlo Bilotti: a look at the collection and its history.
- Easter eggs: hidden details to discover — Saturday 4 April, 16:00, Museo di Roma – Palazzo Braschi: a hunt for small hidden elements in paintings followed by a workshop.

Major exhibitions to see
During the Easter period several important exhibitions will be open across Rome’s museums:
- Musei Capitolini — “Greece in Rome”: more than one hundred sculptures and archaeological items tracing the influence of Greek art in Rome.
- Palazzo Caffarelli — “Vasari and Rome”: an exhibition on Giorgio Vasari’s lasting relationship with the city, part of the 450th anniversary commemorations.
- Palazzo dei Conservatori — “Ancient Civilizations of Turkmenistan”: a collection including works rarely displayed outside Turkmenistan.
- Pinacoteca — “The Unfinished: between poetics and technique”: an investigation into the creative process of unfinished paintings.
- Palazzo Clementino — “The Colours of Antiquity. Santarelli Marbles at the Musei Capitolini”: overview of colored marbles from antiquity to the 20th century.
- Mercati di Traiano – Museum of the Imperial Fora — “Constantin Brâncuși. The Origins of the Infinite”: part of the Italy–Romania cultural year and marking Brâncuși’s 150th anniversary.
- Galleria d’Arte Moderna (GAM) — “GAM 100. A century of the municipal gallery 1925–2025”: over 120 works tracing the gallery’s history.
