A colorful gift by Florentine artist Skim has been placed at the entrance of the Meyer Children's Hospital in Florence. The piano is painted with the artist's characteristic motifs — vivid colors, paper boats, letters, brushes and pencils — designed to welcome young patients with music and cheer.
The instrument was originally part of the solo exhibition "Genesi – L'armonia del Kaos", curated by Simone Teschioni Gallo at Palazzo Medici Riccardi, where visitors were invited to play it. The positive public response inspired the decision to donate the work to the hospital.
The artist and the curator aimed to bring that shared experience into a healthcare setting so that art can act as a first comforting gesture and a reason to smile upon entering the pediatric ward.
The donation is intended as more than an aesthetic contribution: music and color can help reduce stress, promote smiles and create a more human environment for patients and families. This initiative aligns with a broader movement to integrate art into healthcare spaces to enhance the care experience.
Visitor information: the piano is accessible in the hospital entrance and may be used for moments of welcome and animation according to the hospital's guidelines.
