"The Mothers of the Constitution" exhibition at Palazzo Bastogi

Palazzo Bastogi, the seat of the Regional Council of Tuscany in Florence, hosts an exhibition dedicated to the 21 women elected to the Constituent Assembly. The display traces their life stories and political contributions to the Italian Constitution, emphasizing rights, equality and protection of vulnerable groups.

Exhibition content and layout

Built on bibliographic and archival research, the exhibition is arranged in thematic panels that combine biographical notes with excerpts from parliamentary speeches. Key features include:

  • twenty-one panels focused on the Mothers of the Republic, with profiles and quotations;
  • thematic sections on rights, substantive equality, child protection and social justice;
  • special attention to figures linked to Tuscany, such as Teresa Mattei and Bianca Bianchi;
  • educational materials suitable for school groups and general audiences.

Organization and contributors

The exhibition is promoted by the regional branch of the Italian Federation of Partisan Associations (FIAP Tuscany) together with a cultural organization responsible for the exhibition project. The opening included contributions from contemporary historians, institutional representatives and association members, who discussed the historical and civic significance of women's contributions to the founding of the Republic.
