Alto Appennino Modenese Regional Park: a pearl nestled in the greenery

Autore: Redazione 01/08/2025 08:22

For those looking for a rejuvenating holiday, far from the urban chaos, the Alto Appennino Modenese Regional Park is the ideal destination, a green crown between ridges and valleys.

Mount Cimone is the absolute protagonist of the park, with its 2165 meters. The spectacular trails and ski lifts are favorite destinations for hikers, cyclists, and skiers in winter, and from the summit, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Tyrrhenian Sea, especially on the clearest days. But if reading this leads one to think that the park is just a mountain, one would be mistaken. You can get lost among the dense beech forests, treasure chests of biodiversity. Even in autumn, the park offers delights: the foliage provides a spectacular, fairytale display of colors. Fanano, Sestola, and Fiumalbo preserve centuries-old traditions and seem to be suspended in time, with their stone houses, cobblestone streets, and village festivals, where you can eat mushrooms, chestnuts, honey, and alpine cheeses.

During the summer, the park is alive, full of cultural events, music festivals, and walks. In winter, however, it is ideal for alpine skiing.

Getting there is simple: from Modena, the main entrances to the park can be reached in just over an hour by car. You can also arrive by bus towards Sestola or other nearby villages. However, it is preferable to have a car rather than moving by public transport for greater freedom.
