Monte Subasio Park, the spiritual and natural heart of Umbria

Autore: Redazione 01/08/2025 09:42

Where time slows down and the landscape speaks a language of peace, Monte Subasio Park rises in the folds of the most authentic Umbria. It embraces villages like Spello and Nocera Umbra, and spirituality and nature intertwine in a perfect balance. The park takes its name from Monte Subasio, which is a rounded mountain reaching 1290 meters in altitude.

From the summit, you can witness a breathtaking panorama across the entire Umbrian valley, extending all the way to Lake Trasimeno. But it's not just scenery; it is also, and above all, the Mountain of Saint Francis, who prayed, walked, and meditated here. In fact, within this place, you can find some of the most iconic sites for Franciscans. The most famous is the Eremo delle Carceri (Hermitage of the Prisons), which is located a few kilometers from Assisi and is a sanctuary carved into the rock where Saint Francis would retreat for prayer. Here, lovers of spirituality and the more religious can arrive and perform a period of retreat and contemplation in memory of Saint Francis.

Besides spirituality, the park also offers a great deal of biodiversity, obviously with limestone walls and meadows that fill with many colors, especially in spring. It is perfect for those who love to walk, cycle, or simply stroll within this marvelous oasis of biodiversity. The Olive Tree Trail connects Spello to Assisi and is a perfectly marked itinerary.

Every path tells a story of nature, but above all, of faith and tradition. Many of the trails are, in fact, the work of the Romans. The villages of Spello and Assisi are true jewels of art and are a fixed stop for lovers of spirituality. Monte Subasio Park is therefore a place where the soul rests, where the mind can find comfort, in a place that feels like it has remained frozen in the time of Saint Francis.
