Just a few minutes from the center of Gualdo Cattaneo, there’s a place where time seems to slow down — a natural setting filled with gardens, legends, tastings, and green paths. This is Parco Acquarossa, a rural oasis covering 80 hectares, open all year round, welcoming schools, families, and groups for unique and unforgettable educational experiences.
Built on the site of a historic lignite mine active since 1926, the park today is an educational and agritourism center. It offers eight educational programs designed for children aged 5 to 13, featuring activities that explore nature, cooking, history, and creative drawing.
Among the park’s most beloved figures is Pipetto, the little donkey that once helped miners transport coal. His story comes to life aboard the charming “Boat on the Lake”, a special vessel that can host up to 30 children, transforming into a floating space of creativity and storytelling.
One of the most popular projects focuses on the intensive olive grove, home to 47 varieties of olives. Children take part in a sensory olive oil tasting and a drawing workshop. And that’s not all: in the educational vegetable garden and the legume fields—rich in iron—kids learn to recognize raw ingredients and turn them into delicious dishes during hands-on cooking workshops. It’s a true open-air classroom, fostering learning in close contact with nature.
The Taste Bus and the Tractor Museum
An unforgettable experience awaits aboard the Bus del Gusto (Taste Bus) — a small train that travels a 4-km route across the park. Along the way, visitors encounter the Monolith Site, also known as “Umbria’s Stonehenge,” the Enchanted Forest, and the Animal Houses, before reaching a real gem: the Giulio Angelelli Museum, which displays 80 vintage tractors and farming machines, lovingly collected and restored over three generations of the Angelelli family. Recently, the Museum of Flight was also inaugurated, showcasing historical aircraft models and aviation memorabilia.
Services and hospitality
The park is open all year round and offers a large camper parking area (up to 150 vehicles), bars, a picnic area, and the “Il Mulino” restaurant, which serves farm-to-table Umbrian cuisine. Covered spaces are also available, ensuring that activities continue even in bad weather.
