Paper Week 2026: a nationwide push for paper recycling

From 13 to 19 April 2026, Paper Week returns, promoted by Comieco to raise awareness about paper and cardboard recycling. The edition includes roughly 300 events across Italy and aims to improve the quality of separate collection, still affected by common sorting errors.

Italy collects about 3.7 million tonnes of paper and cardboard annually and sends over 90% of packaging to recycling, but improper sorting lowers the recovered material's value. The campaign combines information and hands-on activities for citizens, schools and local operators to address these gaps.

• Estimated participation: 65,000 people;
• Events: creative labs, workshops and public activities;
• RicicloAperto (14–17 April): more than 100 facilities open and about 14,000 students involved;
• Symbolic city: Parma, highlighting the link between packaging and the agri-food chain;
• Information campaign: "Non T'incartare", focused on common collection mistakes.

The week offers both public outreach and educational moments: facility visits will show the full recycling cycle, from collection to transformation into secondary raw material. For cultural operators and local communities, Paper Week is an opportunity to spread sustainable practices and strengthen Italy’s recycling performance.
