RizzutoGallery presents Lunaria, a solo exhibition by Francesca Polizzi (b. 1988, Palermo). The show features newly created works that explore the idea of natural ruin and the creative role of subtraction.
Polizzi's practice is material-focused and almost archaeological: organic elements such as raw wool, wax, colophonium and brambles are manipulated through processes like encaustic painting and ceramic firing, producing surfaces marked by absence, cavities and mnemonic traces.
Referencing poetic and philosophical ideas, the exhibition frames ruin not merely as decay but as an active form that yields lyrical apparitions. The works function as sensory relics where matter and void enter into a narrative relationship.
Highlights include series of felt works printed and layered with encaustic techniques and a set of ceramics where raw wool is mixed into clay: the organic component burns away in firing, leaving impressions and voids that recall fragmented architectures. The exhibition proposes a contemporary reading of ruin as a generative process.
About the artist: Francesca Polizzi lives and works between Palermo and Düsseldorf. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo, her practice has been shown in Italy and abroad; she has undertaken residencies and is represented by RizzutoGallery since 2022.
