Palazzo Venezia: the Monumental Rooms' restoration site opens to visitors

In the historic center of Rome, Palazzo Venezia opens guided visits to the restoration site involving the Monumental Rooms — the Hall of the Globe, the Hall of Battles and the Sala Regia — offering visitors a close-up view of conservation work.

What the visit includes

  • Access to scaffolding: participants can climb the scaffolds to observe restoration activities firsthand.
  • Conservation techniques: explanations on cleaning, consolidation and reintegration of painted surfaces and wooden ceilings.
  • Digital diary: the project is supported by multimedia content and updates on the VIVE – Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia website, including videos and in-depth materials.

Dates and booking

Visits are free but require booking and have limited capacity. Scheduled dates and times (May - June 2026):

  • Saturday 2 May: 10:00 and 11:30
  • Saturday 23 May: 10:00 and 11:30
  • Saturday 6 June: 10:00 and 11:30
  • Saturday 20 June: 10:00 and 11:30

Reservation is mandatory via Eventbrite; places are allocated until sold out.

Why attend

The “open site” approach makes restoration a shared cultural experience, giving the public insights into conservation methods and the historical layers of the rooms. The intervention aims to recover visual clarity while respecting the complex’s historical stratifications and enhancing its role in Rome’s cultural tourism.

Practical tips for visitors

  • Arrive a few minutes early for registration.
  • Have an ID available if requested at check-in.
  • Wear comfortable footwear: accessing scaffolding may require careful movement.

Note: multimedia updates and further information on the restoration are available on the VIVE – Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia project site.
