Artworks in 61 Crater Municipalities: the Maps Participatory Process Concludes

The Maps – Memories, Arts, Landscapes, Signs participatory process, part of the project “L’Aquila City-Territory – Signs and Voices of Landscape”, concluded in San Demetrio ne’ Vestini. The initiative involved 61 municipalities, around 40 cultural and local operators, and roughly 150 participants.

• Four territorial workshops were held in Cugnoli, Colledara, Montereale and San Demetrio ne’ Vestini, focusing on listening and co-design.
• The meetings aimed to gather collective memories, local identities and practical guidelines for a forthcoming call on widespread public art in crater municipalities.
• Findings will be shared at the concluding event on May 18 at Teatro San Filippo, after which the project will launch the call for proposals and artists.

Mayors, local administrators and community representatives took part in the process. The mayor of L'Aquila, Pierluigi Biondi, highlighted the territories’ commitment to a shared vision for cultural and territorial development, while Raffaello Fico, head of the Special Office for Crater Reconstruction, underlined the role of community participation in turning memories and places into development opportunities.
