European Night of Museums at the Herculaneum Archaeological Park
On Saturday 23 May the Herculaneum Archaeological Park takes part in the European Night of Museums with a special evening programme designed to bring visitors closer to the treasures of the Antiquarium and the Boat Pavilion.
From 20:00 to 24:00 the exhibition spaces will be open exceptionally: park scientific staff will provide insights and guided explanations of the finds. Last entry is scheduled at 23:00.
The evening blends archaeological discovery with storytelling: there will be theatre performances, readings and family activities to make the visit engaging for all ages.
Highlights of the programme
- Children's performance: primary school pupils from “Peter Pan” will stage the myth of Hercules and his battle with the Hydra of Lerna in front of the bronze Hydra fountain kept in the Antiquarium.
- Public readings: students from the “Adriano Tilgher” High School will read passages from Paolo Rumiz's Canto per l'Europa along the entrance route, prompting reflection on identity and European memory.
- Villa Campolieto: exhibition on food in ancient Herculaneum open until midnight, with family workshops, educational games on Roman diet and an animated reading about ancient recipes and table customs.
