Francesco Vezzoli’s "Nike Metafisica" at Museo di Santa Giulia

Museo di Santa Giulia in Brescia has added Nike Metafisica (2019) by Francesco Vezzoli to its permanent collection. The sculpture is on display in the Viridarium, the museum garden-sculpture area designed to put contemporary works in direct conversation with archaeological remains.

  • Work: Nike Metafisica (2019)
  • Artist: Francesco Vezzoli
  • Acquisition date: 13 May 2026
  • Location: Viridarium, Museo di Santa Giulia, Brescia
  • Address: Via dei Musei 81b, 25121 Brescia, Italy
  • Coordinates: 45.5392128, 10.2291413

Why visit: Vezzoli revisits the classical iconography of the Winged Victory of Samothrace, incorporating elements of 20th-century metaphysical painting. The contemporary reinterpretation strengthens the ongoing conversation between historical artifacts and modern artistic practice.

Context and suggested routes: the acquisition is part of the Palcoscenici archeologici initiative, which encourages encounters between contemporary art and archaeological sites. Visitors can combine this stop with the exhibition Victoria Mater. L'idolo e l'icona at the Parco archeologico di Brescia romana, on view until 21 June 2026, to deepen the theme of sacred images across time.

Practical visitor information

  • Check museum opening hours and any temporary closures before your visit.
  • Buy tickets online or book a guided tour to better understand the archaeological context and the new acquisition.
  • Bring reference material if you want to explore the iconographic references in detail.
  • Allow enough time to visit both the Viridarium and the archaeological route for a full experience.

The new display reinforces Brescia’s museum offerings by providing a fresh perspective on the dialogue between ancient and contemporary art within a historical setting.
