Roma Gallery Weekend 2026: what happened and how to visit
From 15 to 17 May 2026 the fourth edition of Roma Gallery Weekend — titled "Contemporanea" — involved 32 galleries with exhibitions, special openings and events across the historic centre, Ostiense, San Lorenzo and Esquilino. The program began with a Gallery Night on the evening of 14 May.
Concept and routes
The initiative aimed to highlight Rome's private gallery network through a coordinated program. Four curators (Gaia Bobò, Matteo Binci, Ilaira Gianni and Eleonora Milani) designed independent routes to lead visitors to new and stimulating venues, showcasing the plurality of contemporary practices in the city.
Highlighted galleries and shows
- Galleria Continua (located in the historic St. Regis): features Carlos Garaicoa’s installation engaging with urban memory and architecture.
- Gagosian: photographic exhibition dedicated to Francesca Woodman, including rare and previously unseen works.
- Tornabuoni Arte: "Passo a due", a project that brings together letters and works by the gallery’s historic artists.
- Spazio Nuovo: Rubén Rodrigo’s first solo show in Italy, presenting large-scale oil paintings.
- Antonacci Lapiccirella: a dialogue between Piranesi’s vedute and contemporary black-and-white photography.
Practical tips for visitors
- Check opening times and special events on each gallery's official channels before visiting.
- Plan routes by neighbourhood to minimize travel time: centre, Ostiense, San Lorenzo and Esquilino are the main areas involved.
- Attend the Gallery Night for an overview, then use the following days to explore individual exhibitions in depth.
- Bring a map or follow the curators’ suggested paths to discover lesser-known spaces and projects.
