DON'T FORGET: Photography and Alzheimer Care at the Diocesan Museum in Milan

Autore: Redazione 10/03/2026 11:36

DON'T FORGET. The experience of Sacra Famiglia and Alzheimer care

From 3 March to 3 May 2026, the Museo Diocesano Carlo Maria Martini in Milan hosts the photographic exhibition "DON'T FORGET", a project that explores Alzheimer’s disease and daily life at the Fondazione Sacra Famiglia in Cesano Boscone.

Exhibition layout

The show is divided into three complementary sections that combine contemporary perspectives and archival images to convey different dimensions of care and memory.

  • Memory and relationship: photographs by Marianna Sambiase, produced within the Alzheimer Unit of RSA San Pietro, focus on people — faces, hands, gestures — and emphasize photography as a means of recognition and connection.
  • Historical documentation: a set of 1946 images by Enrico Zuppi portrays life at the foundation in the immediate postwar years, highlighting communal care and reception.
  • Contemporary reportage: Gianni Berengo Gardin’s black-and-white photographs (2011) offer a clear, compassionate account of daily activities, therapeutic programs and the relationships between residents and staff.

Curatorship and civic value

Curated by Giovanna Calvenzi with support from institutional partners, the exhibition aims to provide a respectful, human perspective on dementia. The images function not only as documentation but as tools to engage visitors with the complexity of personal identity amid memory loss and to recognize the dedication of care professionals.
