Art critic and academic Mario Savini has been selected as curator of the Republic of Haiti's Pavilion for the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. The pavilion will present Yelena’s Garden, an installation by Haitian-born artist Enock Placide, currently based in New York.
Savini, professor of Contemporary Art History at the University of Camerino (Ascoli Piceno campus), focuses his research on intersections between contemporary art, science and technology, exploring interdisciplinary practices that reshape cultural imaginaries. His curatorial concept examines how perception and relationships with nature give rise to new cosmological visions.
Placide's installation is conceived as a relational environment: imagery emerges progressively through visitors' experiences and the time of engagement, challenging the notion of a single fixed viewpoint. The work will be installed in the historic spaces of Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello in Venice.
Haiti's participation in the Biennale offers increased international exposure for Haitian contemporary art and contributes to cultural diplomacy efforts that promote exchange between artistic traditions and global audiences.
Visitors can expect an immersive, participatory installation that invites reflection on nature, perception and collective imagination.
