Coinciding with National Sea Day on April 11, a group of local administrations has formed an alliance to tackle plastic pollution entering the sea from rivers and coastlines. The initiative aims to turn citizen awareness into concrete local policies restricting single-use plastic.
The initiative began with a public appeal — "A.A.A. Seeking Italian Municipalities" — and emphasizes that "protecting the sea depends on the awareness of the citizen-consumer". Promoters say mayors have a central role in adopting measures to safeguard public health and marine ecosystems.
The network is presented as a replicable model for other Italian coasts, aiming to exchange best practices among administrations and collaborate with third-sector organizations on environmental education and prevention measures.
