The Cavalese Museum of Contemporary Art has announced its 2026 schedule, built around the concept of the museum as a space for exchange between artists, the local community and the alpine territory. The curator has planned a seasonal calendar — spring, summer and winter — featuring performances, solo shows and projects that engage with historic and public contexts.
Established in 2001 in Cavalese's historic center, the museum originated from a twentieth-century collection and has since developed a focus on contemporary practices that resonate with alpine identity. The 2026 program reinforces this direction with works conceived for the site and formats that encourage public participation.
The season opens with Performa Cavalese, a three-week initiative inspired by performative and participatory formats. Three local artists will present three temporary installations each, rotating on a weekly schedule from Wednesday to Sunday. Saturdays are the hub for audience engagement, with workshops, talks and performances that create direct interaction between visitors and artists.
Participants: Leonardo Panizza, Johannes Bosisio and Angelo Dimitri Morandini. The project aims to map emerging research and practices from the Trentino area over time.
In summer the museum hosts a solo show by Erik Saglia, titled Fly-by. The artist develops a visual system that tensions grid structures and perception. Handcrafted works and site-specific interventions will interact with the museum’s architecture to create an immersive viewing experience.
The year concludes with Festina lente, a project by Jacopo Dimastrogiovanni that reconnects contemporary practice with historical heritage. Starting from a seventeenth-century altarpiece preserved locally, the artist integrates the historic work into a contemporary painting inquiry addressing memory, neglect and collective responsibility for cultural assets.
The museum’s direction emphasizes community involvement: 2026 activities are designed to foster lasting ties between the public, artists and local organizations. Labs, talks and performative events expand traditional museum visitation and make the institution a lively platform for cultural exchange.
For visitors interested in contemporary practices rooted in local context, the Cavalese Museum of Contemporary Art’s 2026 program offers multiple opportunities to experience site-specific works, join participatory events and reflect on the relationship between contemporary art and cultural heritage.
