Free museums in Milan: Domenica al Museo - 3 May 2026

On 3 May, as every first Sunday of the month, Domenica al Museo returns. This initiative by the Ministry of Culture allows free access to state museums, archaeological sites and cultural institutions. In Milan several venues will open their doors, including temporary exhibitions and permanent collections.

Practical information:

  • Date: 3 May 2026
  • Typical opening time: from 10:00 (check each museum's official timetable)
  • Entrance: free at participating state sites
  • Bring ID if required for admission

Selected participating museums in Milan:

  • Palazzo Marino - Milan's city hall, open to visitors on limited occasions.
  • Museo del Cenacolo Vinciano (Last Supper) - access requires mandatory reservation; phone for info/reservations: 02 92800360.
  • Gallerie d'Italia (Piazza Scala) - free visit also to the exhibition "La strada per Cortina."
  • Pinacoteca di Brera - free entry to the collection and the Giorgio Armani exhibition (advance reservation required).
  • Armani/Silos - visit the "Giorgio Armani Privé" exhibition (check for any limitations).
  • Archaeological Museum of Milan - open with free admission for the day.
  • Castello Sforzesco museums - access to state collections and exhibition areas.
  • Fondazione Rovati Art Museum - free access to the collection and participating shows.
  • Museo del Novecento - free entry to the permanent collection.

Tips:

  • Reserve in advance for sites that require booking (notably the Last Supper and certain exhibitions) as places are limited.
  • Expect queues on free-entry days and allow extra time for visits.
  • Always check official museum channels for up-to-date opening hours and access rules.

Take advantage of the day to explore Milan's public collections and temporary exhibitions without ticket cost: plan ahead and confirm access procedures for each venue.
