Infinito Cabinet is an installation by Maria Cristina Crespo presented as a Collateral Event of the 61st International Art Exhibition — La Biennale di Venezia. The project functions as a contemporary Wunderkammer: a multi-material environment that navigates literature, myth, religion and cultural memories to probe Western identity.
Through material juxtapositions and recycled fabrics, Crespo shapes micro-narratives of history using anthropomorphic vessels, stage-like settings, painted backdrops and costumes. The works juxtapose popular traditions and canonical references — from Ovid and Dante to ritual practices and symbols drawn from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas — with an intentionally grotesque aesthetic.
The exhibition offers a cultural response to debates on cancellation and memory, privileging complexity and cross-cultural encounter. Works operate as tools of wonder and investigation, situating Venice as a symbolic landscape between the finite and the infinite.
Visiting Infinito Cabinet means entering an iconographic theatre where time periods and geographies converse — from Indian textiles to Baroque Mexico, from Mithraic cults to Eastern European traditions — producing an exhibitional itinerary that oscillates between memory and imagination.
