The exhibition "Fairy Tales Are True… Italian Popular Stories" at the Museum of Civilizations in Rome has been extended until 24 May 2026. Designed as an immersive and accessible pathway, the show connects fairy tales with arts and popular traditions to propose contemporary readings of Italy's popular heritage.
Hosted in the Palace of Arts and Popular Traditions (EUR), the display presents over 500 items — paintings, costumes, masks, amulets, musical instruments, toys, photographs and footage — using a fairy-tale narrative to link past and present. An original tale by Elena Zagaglia accompanies the visit and is available in multiple formats (audio, easy-to-read, AAC, LIS and ASL).
Accessibility is central to the project: supported by PNRR funds and curated by the Directorate General of Museums with the Museum of Civilizations, the exhibition includes physical, sensory, cognitive and relational accessibility solutions developed in collaboration with leading associations.
The exhibition stands as a practical example of museum inclusion and design for all: a reference for cultural professionals and visitors seeking participatory and accessible museum experiences.
