Monumenti Aperti 2026: 30th edition

Monumenti Aperti comes back in spring for its 30th edition: from 18 April to 8 November 2026 the initiative reopens hundreds of cultural sites to the public across Italy. The program includes more than 800 sites in 18 regions, featuring free guided tours and thematic routes suitable for all ages.

Main locations and highlights

The schedule is spread through the year and across the country. Key locations and moments in 2026 include:

  • Cagliari: April opening and a Sardinia-focused program involving over 60 municipalities;
  • Quiliano (Liguria), Pinerolo (Piedmont) and Benevento (Campania): medieval and pre-Roman sites;
  • Aymavilles (Aosta Valley): the significant religious site of Saint-Léger crypt;
  • Palermo and Syracuse (Sicily): urban heritage trails and art sites;
  • Perugia, Turin, Ferrara, Venice, Rome and Milan: autumn openings with special events;
  • Pollino National Park: dialogue between landscape and contemporary art.

Program sections and special initiatives

Monumenti Aperti is more than guided visits: the festival includes programs focused on inclusion, education and cultural performance.

  • Cultura senza Barriere (Culture without Barriers): accessible routes, free services and the involvement of people with disabilities as volunteer guides, together with an accessibility mapping of sites;
  • Monuments in Music & Performance: concerts and shows that enliven historic spaces, produced with schools and local groups;
  • Family activities: workshops and visits designed for children, turning heritage into an educational experience.

Origins and impact

Born in 1997 in Sardinia from a local group's initiative, Monumenti Aperti has evolved into a national best practice coordinated by Imago Mundi OdV. Over thirty years the project has recorded millions of guided visits and mobilized thousands of volunteers and students, helping to promote and safeguard hundreds of monuments across many communities.

Practical information

To plan visits download the official Monumenti Aperti app and follow the project's social channels where timetables, routes and accessibility details are published. Most visits are free; booking is recommended for popular sites.

Tip: check the individual site page on the app or official channels for updated opening times, booking requirements and mobility services.
