Mobility and culture in Calabria: three municipalities await service upgrade

On 18 April 2026 the mayors of Castrolibero, Cerisano and Marano Principato submitted a joint request to the Regional Transport Department to extend bus line 369 from the current two daily round-trips to twelve, aiming to make the service truly usable for residents and commuters.

Local administrations and citizens report no response from the regional offices. Limited connections are affecting access to schools, cinemas, theatres and cultural events, with consequences for:

• Cultural access: students and audiences struggle to attend local events;
• Rights and inclusion: workers, elderly and young people depend on private cars, increasing household costs;
• Environment and sustainability: increased traffic and emissions opposing regional sustainability goals.

A spontaneous citizens' group that circulated the request is asking for clear timelines and transparency on the outcome. For these communities, mobility is more than logistics: it is a prerequisite for social and cultural participation.
