“Novecento by the Sea”: five days in Riccione for the Republic's 80th anniversary

The Municipality of Riccione, together with the Fondazione Biblioteca del Mulino, presents “Novecento by the Sea”, a distributed cultural series focused on 20th-century memory and historical narration. The festival runs from 22 to 26 April 2026 across the Palazzo del Turismo, Villa Mussolini and other city locations.

The program mixes performances, archival film screenings, talks and guided walks to provide accessible and engaging perspectives for audiences of all ages.

  • 22 April – Opening with the show "Stardust. Polvere di stelle" (Sala Granturismo, 10:00) and the evening talk "Plants, Earth, Inhabitants" (Palazzo del Turismo, 21:00).
  • 23 April – Istituto Luce newsreels at Villa Mussolini (18:30) and the talk "Young, Free, Partisans" with Michela Ponzani (Palazzo del Turismo, 21:00).
  • 24 April – Historical walk along the Gothic Line from Montegridolfo (15:30) and the debate "Which stories, how many stories" (Palazzo del Turismo, 21:00).
  • 25 April – Liberation Day ceremony (09:30) and public contributions including Gad Lerner; evening talks by Marianna Aprile and Benedetta Tobagi (Palazzo del Turismo).
  • 26 April – Press review with Ezio Mauro (Blue Bar Caffè, 10:30) and guided visit to the photo exhibition "Bruno Barbey. The Italians" at Villa Mussolini (16:00).

Some events are free (subject to seating capacity), others require a ticket or reservation. The festival aims to enhance local sites and memories while offering critical, performative readings of Italy's 20th century.
