Maggio Museale and European Night of Museums 2026 at Sapienza

When: Saturday 23 May 2026 (activities run from the afternoon until midnight). Where: Sapienza University of Rome, Piazzale Aldo Moro 5. Admission: free.

The Polo Museale - Sapienza Cultura presents Maggio Museale in conjunction with the European Night of Museums: a full day of exhibitions, seminars, themed guided tours and hands-on workshops for families, students and culture lovers. The programme highlights the expanded museum offer of the university.

  • Museum of Etruscan and Italic Antiquities – Open 15:00-24:00. At 18:00 the exhibition Etruscan Blue, Etruscan Gold opens, featuring finds from Pyrgi, Cerveteri, Tarquinia and other sites. Children’s workshops, a scholarly seminar and the evening concert Avanguardia Etrusca are scheduled.
  • Geography Museum – Open 15:30-24:00. The exhibition Geografie Sonore offers a sensory journey through cartographic heritage. Children’s workshops on mountain modeling and geographic readings; continuous guided tours 18:00-22:00.
  • “Giuseppe Sergi” Anthropology Museum – Open 18:00-23:00. The Meet the Ancestor workshop traces human evolution from Lucy to Neanderthals, with evening guided visits.
  • MLAC – Museum-Laboratory of Contemporary Art – Open 15:00-24:00. First Italian retrospective of Alì Assaf (1973–2011) with curator-led visit, children’s paper-window workshop, evening performance and documentary screening.
  • Museum of Origins – Open 15:30-24:00. New prehistoric displays including wooden artefacts from the Ledro pile-dwellings and hands-on workshops about early tools and archaeological surveying.
  • Comparative Anatomy Museum “Battista Grassi” – Open 18:00-24:00. Evening guided tours through the comparative anatomy collections.
  • Herbarium Museum – Open 15:00-24:00. Special openings and activities focused on the university’s botanical collections.

The programme covers diverse disciplines from archaeology and natural sciences to medicine and contemporary art. Activities are free, though some require booking or have limited capacity.
