The secret oasis on the outskirts of Turin: the Lakes of Avigliana

Autore: Redazione 27/09/2025 13:33

Just thirty minutes by car from the urban chaos of Turin, a completely different world opens up, where time flows at the slow rhythm of placid waters: the Avigliana Lakes Natural Park (Parco Naturale dei Laghi di Avigliana). This aquatic refuge guards a precious ecosystem that seems suspended between land and sky, where two mirrors of crystalline water tell millenary stories of vanished glaciers.

Approaching the Lago Grande (Large Lake) in the golden hours of the morning is like discovering an Impressionist painting that comes to life. The calm waters perfectly reflect the silhouettes of the Alps standing out on the horizon, while a gentle breeze barely ripples the surface, creating silvery gleams that dance in the light of the rising sun. The fresh scent of the water mixes with the sweet aroma of wild flowers that dot the grassy shores.

The Lago Piccolo (Small Lake), more intimate and sheltered, offers moments of pure contemplation. Here, floating water lilies form green carpets on the surface, while iridescent dragonflies flutter like living jewels among the whispering reeds. The melodious song of kingfishers and Grey Herons accompanies walks along the shady paths that hug the banks.

The Mareschi wetland area transforms a simple excursion into an exciting nature adventure. Here, amidst lush marshes and winding channels, wild life thrives undisturbed. Colorful ducks glide silently among the marsh grasses, while singing frogs create a natural symphony that intensifies with the arrival of evening.

Walking the flat trails that connect the two lakes means immersing oneself in a shifting landscape that changes shades with the seasons. In spring, explosions of wild flowers color the banks, while autumn paints the reflected foliage with golden and flaming red hues. During winter, when a light frost decorates the grass, the atmosphere becomes magical and muffled.

This lakeside sanctuary offers a perfect escape from metropolitan frenzy. Strategically placed benches invite restorative stops where you can listen to the gentle gurgling of the water against the shores, breathe the pure air, and let the natural serenity dissolve all tension, offering moments of authentic peace within easy reach of the city.
