Le Torbiere del Sebino, the unexpected silent oasis on Lake Iseo

Autore: Redazione 01/08/2025 08:47

Hidden among the reeds, the pools of water, and the suspended paths is a magical place, the Torbiere del Sebino nature reserve. It lies between the reflections of Lake Iseo and the hills of Franciacorta, in the province of Brescia, and is recognized as a wetland of international importance.

Paradoxically, human intervention, which usually destroys, created it. In fact, the new landscape that characterizes the reserve has generated a treasure trove of biodiversity where dozens of different animal species coexist. The heart of the Torbiere (Peat Bogs) is made up of ponds and basins, and in spring and autumn the colors are beautiful, and many species of migratory birds pass through here.

It is ideal for birdwatching or for those who love photography. In fact, more than 200 species of birds hide and compete for the location. The most suggestive route starts from the Monastery of San Pietro in Lamosa and offers a privileged viewpoint over the entire landscape. It was founded in the year 1000 and is now open to visitors, often hosting exhibitions and cultural initiatives. The visit to the Torbiere requires a fee, but it is only a symbolic contribution.

Be careful not to bring dogs with you: they are not allowed, because respect for nature comes first, especially for the protection of biodiversity. Here you can also taste the excellent Franciacorta wine, which is recognized all over the world as a local specialty. This corner of Lombardy is ideal for those seeking silence away from mass tourism, in a place that seems to whisper beauty from every pore.
