Lake Occhito: an oasis of peace in Molise

Autore: Redazione 26/08/2025 11:24

On the border between the Molise and Puglia regions lies a natural gem nestled among rolling green hills and lush forests. This is the Lago di Occhito (Lake Occhito), the largest artificial reservoir in Southern Italy, which offers the perfect retreat for anyone seeking nature and relaxation. There are many reasons to visit.

First and foremost, the breathtaking panoramas, which feature the hills of Molise and Puglia, are postcard-perfect. Especially at sunset in the summer, the grand colors of the sky blend with the surrounding greenery, creating a perfect landscape for Instagrammers and photographers, or anyone who simply loves the beauty of nature.

Ornithology enthusiasts will be amazed within the park surrounding the lake. Occhito is, in fact, a perfect hotspot for birdwatching, particularly for the migratory species that occupy and are hosted within the lake. It is a vibrant and living environment, unique in its kind, and for those who are patient enough to wait, you can observe species rarely found elsewhere.

Lake Occhito is also perfect for trekking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. There are also many picnic areas that invite families to visit the lake for moments of relaxation and contemplation.

It is a corner far from mass tourism and the frantic life that awaits us every day. This is the ideal place to regenerate, find new vitality, and enjoy the beauty of an untouched landscape. This is the perfect location to visit the most authentic side of Molise.
