Lake Mergozzo: the enchanting little sibling

Autore: Redazione 26/08/2025 15:40

Lake Mergozzo is a gem of rare beauty, known for its transparent waters. It is nicknamed the "Little Lake" and is nestled among the mountains of Piedmont near Lake Maggiore, which is precisely why it earned its nickname.

This body of water offers an authentic and relaxing experience. As mentioned, one of the reasons to visit is the clear and inviting waters, which provide a refreshing experience in summer, especially on scorching days. You can cross it by swimming, kayaking, or stand-up paddleboarding. The beauty of its transparency lies in the fact that the tall peaks surrounding it are reflected, giving rise to a breathtaking panorama that enchants visitors in every season.

Of course, the presence of totally unspoiled nature is not to be underestimated. The surrounding hills are verdant, and the lake is an oasis of biodiversity where you can find herons, ducks, and rich aquatic flora.

It must be said that, compared to the more famous Lake Maggiore, Lake Mergozzo offers a haven of calm away from mass tourism, with small beaches and semi-empty meadows that provide moments of relaxation.

Its proximity to the village of Mergozzo also offers the opportunity to make an important stop in the heart of Piedmontese culture and tradition. Here you can savor local dishes like lake fish, with welcoming trattorias that highlight the Piedmontese tradition. Visiting Lake Mergozzo is therefore an invitation to slow down and enjoy the beauty of the most unspoiled side of Piedmont.
