Lake Carezza: the rainbow mirror of the Dolomites

Autore: Redazione 30/08/2025 15:31

Lake Carezza is hidden among the forests of South Tyrol (Alto Adige), and it is a place that seems straight out of a fairy tale. It is also known as the Lec de Ergobando in Ladin, and it takes on shades ranging from emerald green to deep blue. It is, in fact, called the "Rainbow Lake" because of its thousand colors.

At the foot of the Latemar massif, the lake is enveloped in a magical atmosphere, situated at an altitude of 1,534 meters, and it tells millions of stories. One such tale is that a water nymph lived here, and a wizard fell madly in love with her; to win her over, he created a rainbow that reflected in the lake. The nymph, frightened, vanished forever, but the colors remained imprinted in the water, giving the lake its unique magic.

The lake is a perfect destination in both summer and winter, offering a breathtaking panorama. In winter, the frozen lake obviously provides different emotions than in summer, when you can take a dip to cool off. The trails vary in difficulty: a simple, flat path circles the lake, but there are also more challenging routes, such as the one leading to the peaks of Latemar.

Lake Carezza is pure poetry; we recommend everyone to visit it.
