In Dorgali, along the eastern coast of Sardinia, stands the Cala Gonone Aquarium, one of the most important facilities in the Mediterranean dedicated to the study and conservation of marine life.
The exhibition route winds through 26 tanks hosting more than 200 species of fish, invertebrates, and organisms typical of the Mediterranean Sea and other marine environments around the world. From brightly coloured moray eels to seahorses, cat sharks, and sea turtles, each tank is a microcosm that tells the story of marine biodiversity.
More than just an aquarium
One of the most fascinating aspects of the aquarium is its educational mission: through interactive panels, multimedia experiences, and children’s workshops, visitors can learn about the importance of protecting marine ecosystems.
The park also offers special experiences:
The facility also hosts research and rescue projects, including one dedicated to Caretta caretta sea turtles, which are treated and then released back into the sea. This concrete environmental commitment makes the Cala Gonone Aquarium not just a tourist attraction, but also a scientific and conservation centre of great importance.
Next to the exhibition area, visitors can relax in the green outdoor spaces and enjoy the panoramic view over the Gulf of Orosei. Thanks to its strategic location, the aquarium is also an ideal starting point to explore the natural and marine beauty of Sardinia’s eastern coast.
Opening Hours and Prices
The aquarium is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with last entry at 5:00 p.m.
