‘Giornata della Ristorazione’ established by law

On 6 May 2026 the Italian Parliament approved Law no. 77/2026, instituting the Giornata della Ristorazione, to be observed each year on the third Saturday of May. The measure recognises the cultural, economic and social importance of restaurants and other dining venues and promotes sustainability, quality and legality across the food chain.

• Objectives: inclusion, environmental and economic sustainability, preservation of culinary traditions and protection of labour in the sector.
• Planned measures: an annual thematic focus, nationally coordinated events led by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy with partner ministries, dedicated RAI programming and school-based educational activities.
• Awards: ten annual medals to entrepreneurs distinguished for sustainability, innovation, safety, legality and promotion of the supply chain.
• Funding: €42,000 per year for the national initiative and €3,000 per year for the medals (total €45,000).

Regions, local authorities and schools are encouraged to organise events and educational programmes to foster a culture of quality, transparency and respect for labour, reinforcing the identity and international reputation of Made in Italy cuisine.
