Tremiti Islands: the marine paradise of Gargano

Autore: Redazione 27/08/2025 11:11

The Tremiti Islands are a small archipelago off the Gargano coast in Puglia, and they are a natural jewel that is part of the Gargano National Park. They are perfect for anyone seeking unspoiled nature and beauty, a jewel of the Adriatic, and there are several reasons to visit them.

Firstly, the Tremiti boast some of the most turquoise and clearest sea in Italy. Its waters are crystalline, with seabeds rich in Posidonia oceanica, colorful fish, and corals, making it ideal for snorkeling enthusiasts. The Tremiti, in fact, contain some of the most beautiful coves in Italy, including Cala delle Arene on San Domino, and Cala Matano on San Nicola.

Furthermore, the caves present in the Tremiti Islands are spectacular to the point of being absurd. The Grotta del Bue Marino (Monk Seal Cave), which we have mentioned, and the Grotta delle Viole (Violets Cave), both explorable by boat, are natural gems that offer a unique experience with their interplay of light and reflections.

The Tremiti are also a perfect oasis with their Mediterranean flora and unique marine fauna. You might spot various yellow-legged gulls, peregrine falcons, and even dolphins, if you are lucky enough.

A perfect diving sanctuary is the island of Capraia, which is uninhabited today. Near the Tremiti Islands is San Nicola, with its medieval Abbey of Santa Maria a Mare, which perfectly combines history and nature. After a swim, you can visit this spectacular village.

The islands offer peace away from the chaos with an authentic atmosphere. Visiting the Tremiti Islands means discovering a corner of Puglia far from the commotion, one that looks like a painting. This marine paradise will steal your heart.
