The Portovenere Regional Natural Park: a wild jewel of Liguria

Autore: Redazione 24/08/2025 18:16

A UNESCO World Heritage Site together with the village of Portovenere and the islands of Palmaria, Tino, and Tinetto, the Portovenere Regional Natural Park is one of those places where nature meets history, where time seems to preserve its primordial force. It is a true little paradise.

The ideal starting point is the village of Portovenere, with its colorful houses, from which a world of paths, cliff-side roads, and secluded coves opens up. Here, the atmosphere is that of a natural sanctuary, where high white rock walls plunge into the deep blue of the Ligurian Sea, creating a breathtaking color contrast.

Every glimpse looks like a natural painting, from Punta Bianca to Punta Secco, and the intense scents of the plants make the landscape beautiful not only to see but also to smell. Palmaria Island, the largest island in the archipelago, offers itineraries that wind through the woods, and this is where the real magic begins.

The paths lead to old military forts and panoramic views of the Cinque Terre and Tuscany. Tino and Tinetto, on the other hand, are smaller and wilder, with the remains of ancient monasteries and an aura of mystery.

The park also tells a story of literature and beauty. A point of enormous interest for literature lovers is Byron's cave, near the church of San Pietro, which is an iconic place, as it was here that the English poet found inspiration and meditated in front of the infinite sea. Poetry still echoes in these rocks, and it is wonderful to be able to relax here in a place that inspired one of the most important poets in English literature.

Boat trips, diving, trekking, and climbing are experiences that are in tune with this wonderful corner of Liguria.

Visiting the Porto Venere Regional Natural Park means experiencing the most authentic Liguria, a place you will never forget, capable of leaving a mark on the hearts of those who explore it, who know they have touched absolute beauty with their own hands.
