The hidden paradise of the Pennine Alps: Veglia and Devero

Autore: Redazione 27/09/2025 13:30

There is a place where the deep blue of the glacial lakes merges with the brilliant gold of the summer pastures, creating a chromatic symphony that captivates the soul: the Alpe Veglia and Alpe Devero Natural Park. This secret jewel of the Pennine Alps, nestled on the Swiss border, holds panoramas so perfect they seem hand-painted by a visionary artist.

The crystalline air that caresses the face during the ascent smells of freshly cut hay and edelweiss. The grassy expanses stretch out like green carpets dotted with the vibrant colors of gentians, rhododendrons, and wild orchids that bloom in a triumph of spontaneous beauty. Every step along the well-marked paths reveals new wonders: gurgling streams dancing between smooth stones, the melodious sound of grazing cows' bells echoing through the valleys.

Lake Devero emerges as a turquoise mirror of water, faithfully reflecting the imposing peaks that surround it. Its shores invite contemplative stops where the profound silence is broken only by the gentle lapping of the waves against the stony banks. Not far away, Lake d'Avino offers another oasis of tranquility, where the very clear waters allow a glimpse of the rocky bottom through shimmering reflections.

The majestic peaks exceeding three thousand meters create a dramatic backdrop that changes appearance with the hours of the day. At rosy dawn, the peaks are tinged with golden hues, while at sunset they take on purplish tones that mirror themselves in the calm waters of the alpine lakes. The undulating prairies transform into natural theaters where curious marmots peek out from among the rocks and elegant raptors glide silently over the grassy basins.

Walking these enchanted trails means immersing oneself in a complete sensory experience: the soft texture of the grass underfoot, the intoxicating scent of Swiss pine, the breathtaking view that suddenly opens up behind every curve. This alpine sanctuary remains preserved from mass tourism, giving those who discover it the authentic emotion of being face-to-face with the pristine nature of the Alps in all its wild glory and majestic simplicity.
