The Hanging Garden: adventure among the trees in Tuscany

Autore: Redazione 31/08/2025 14:36

There’s a place in Tuscany, in Riparbella, where you can spend an entire day among the rolling Pisan hills enjoying nature, sport, and adventure — Il Giardino Sospeso (“The Hanging Garden”), a park that perfectly blends outdoor fun and environmental awareness.

As you enter the Regional Nature Reserve “Il Giardino”, the atmosphere immediately changes: birdsong fills the air, the shade of tall trees cools the path, and the trails wind mysteriously through the green forest. Then you look up — and the woods reveal their hidden side: rope bridges, suspended walkways, and zip lines weaving between the trunks.

Courses for Every Age and Level of Courage

The heart of the park lies in its aerial adventure trails, designed for different ages and thrill levels.

The green courses, ideal for children and adults at least 130 cm tall, offer the perfect start.

  • Green 1 (easy level) reaches 3.5 m above ground and includes square suspension bridges, rope tunnels, and a 20 m zip line — ideal for gaining confidence among the trees.
  • Green 2 is more challenging, rising to 6 m with swinging bridges, rope beams, and a 50 m zip line for a true adrenaline rush.

Next come the purple courses for participants over 140 cm.

  • Purple 1 (medium difficulty) climbs up to 7 m, featuring suspended skateboards, lianas, and an exciting 60 m zip line.
  • Purple 2 is the newest addition — made entirely of zip lines ranging from 30 m to 65 m, connected by a ladder section. Fast, smooth, and ideal even for beginners seeking a spectacular ride.

For the boldest adventurers, the blue and red trails push limits even further.

  • Blue (difficult level) alternates hanging swings, horizontal and vertical ladders, and ends with a 35 m zip line.
  • Red, the park’s signature trail, reaches 10 m in height with rope ladders, wobbly bridges, Nepalese crossings, and a breathtaking 100 m zip line finale.

Adventure with a Lesson

Il Giardino Sospeso isn’t just about fun — it’s about learning through nature. Many schools choose it for field trips, knowing that a day among the trees can teach teamwork, courage, and respect for the environment better than a classroom. The park organizes environmental workshops and educational activities focused on local flora and fauna, making the experience both exciting and educational.

Relaxation and Safety First

After tackling ropes and zip lines, visitors can unwind in shaded picnic areas, on grassy meadows, or at refreshment points offering snacks and drinks. The atmosphere is welcoming and family-friendly, with trained instructors always ensuring safety from start to finish — a thrilling yet serene adventure for everyone.

A Destination for Families, Friends, and Teams

Il Giardino Sospeso is a place that brings everyone together. Families find activities for all ages, groups of friends can turn it into a friendly challenge, and companies use it as a perfect setting for team-building experiences. Nature, adventure, and personal growth meet here in perfect balance — a harmony that few places can offer.
