Gnamc brings design into the galleries: new installation and museum

Gnamc: bridging art and design

The Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (Gnamc) in Rome is introducing design elements into its galleries to enhance visitor experience and highlight the collection. The revamped installation, presented by director Renata Cristina Mazzantini, creates a dialogue between artworks and design objects, making exhibition spaces more comfortable and interactive.

Developed through collaborations with leading Italian companies, the initiative treats design as a cultural and artistic phenomenon that blends aesthetics, technology and industrial production. Sponsored partnerships between public and private sectors support the museum in integrating furniture and objects that invite visitors to "inhabit" the rooms.

Merchandising as a curatorial extension

Alongside the new installation, Gnamc is launching a merchandising line conceived as a continuation of its curatorial work: masterpieces from the collection are reinterpreted into design products aimed at broadening the museum's reach. The bookshop is envisioned as a final exhibition space, and partnerships with industry aim to distribute the collection's narratives through commercial channels.

  • Partner companies: Armani/Casa, Kartell, Cappellini, Poltrona Frau, Rubelli.
  • Already presented items: a tableware line by Guzzini; the Emilio lamp by Slamp inspired by Emilio Isgrò; Ipporia by designer Wang Yi produced by the Zhong Art International Foundation.
  • New visual identity: logo by Lorenzo Marini.

See it at Salone del Mobile 2026

Gnamc will participate in the Salone del Mobile 2026 in Milan, within the Ministry of Culture's stand, to showcase its first merchandising proposals and design collaborations. This presence is part of a national initiative to promote Made in Italy and to strengthen ties between museums and the design industry.

Collaboration with ADI (Associazione per il Design Industriale) supports the development of design-oriented products for the museum, reflecting institutional interest in new cultural valorisation practices that directly involve companies and designers.

Practical takeaways: visitors can expect more immersive gallery settings and new museum products; designers and companies are invited to submit project proposals to develop items under the Gnamc brand.
