Turandot centenary exhibition at the Puccini Museum

To mark 100 years since the premiere of Turandot (April 25, 1926), the Puccini Museum Casa Natale in Lucca presents an exhibition tracing the opera's staging history. The display occupies several museum rooms and brings together archival materials and theatrical objects.

  • Dates: from April 24 to November 1, 2026.
  • On display: period images, stage photographs, press reports and original documents related to the premiere performance.
  • Highlights: two historical costumes used in the 1926 premiere, restored by the Museo del Tessuto in Prato; original designs by Galileo Chini; figurines by Umberto Brunelleschi and the second-act costume from Maria Jeritza's estate.
  • Curators: Simonetta Bigongiari (director of the Puccini Museum) and Daniela Degl'Innocenti (conservator at the Museo del Tessuto).

The exhibition aims to recreate the atmosphere of the inaugural night and explain how scenographic and costume choices shaped the reception of the work in Italy and abroad. It offers a rare chance to see restored items and to learn about the historical and artistic context of the 1926 La Scala production.

Practical information:

  • The exhibition is open during the Puccini Museum's regular opening hours.
  • On Saturdays and the third Sunday of each month the admission ticket includes a guided tour led by museum staff.
  • For information and bookings: phone +39 0583 1900379, email [email protected].

The event is organised by the Fondazione Giacomo Puccini in collaboration with the Museo del Tessuto di Prato and is part of the "I musei del Sorriso" festival programme promoted by the Lucca provincial museum system.
