Táifinakpo’ marks the first solo exhibition in Italy by American artist Gisela McDaniel, opening on April 9, 2026 at Galleria Poggiali in Milan. The show is presented as a site-specific immersive installation that brings together paintings, works on paper and sound elements to highlight ancestral narratives and historically marginalized voices.
Rooted in Choctaw heritage, McDaniel’s practice blends audio interviews with oil portraits and assemblage: the sitters—primarily women and non-binary people identifying as Micronesian, Indigenous of Turtle Island, Asian, Latina, or multiracial—are given active presence, challenging traditional power dynamics between artist and subject.
The title evokes persistence and continuity of memory, framing the exhibition as an exploration of protection, resilience and spiritual rootedness. Together the works invite visitors to move between immersion and contemplation while amplifying stories often excluded from mainstream cultural narratives.
Visitors should check the gallery’s official channels for current opening hours and access information before planning a visit.
