Museion Bolzano presents a comprehensive retrospective devoted to Franco Vaccari (Modena, 1936–2025), curated by Frida Carazzato and Luca Panaro. The show runs from 28 March to 13 September 2026 and focuses on the artist's environments as works that become meaningful through visitor activation.
The exhibition examines Vaccari's concept of the "real-time exhibition": artworks conceived not as static objects but as systems that require public interaction to function. The installation, designed by Fosbury Architecture, unfolds across the museum's third and fourth floors and is organized by thematic clusters rather than chronological sequence.
The presentation also features photographs, films, artist books and archival documents that map Vaccari's six-decade practice, from visual poetry and verbo-visual experiments to technological inquiries. Key threads include the camera as physical evidence of presence, the privileging of process over manual authorship, and the public as co-producer of meaning.
Exhibition design favors reclaimed materials and temporary architectures to make each environment feel like a living situation to be experienced rather than a museum document. Several works require active participation and involve specific sensory conditions; visitors should check museum information for access rules and participation details.
