Hokusai in Rome: a comprehensive exhibition with over 200 works

From 27 March to 29 June 2026, Rome presents a major solo exhibition dedicated to Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849), a leading figure of Ukiyo-e. The show, held at Palazzo Bonaparte (Nuovo Spazio Generali Valore Cultura, Piazza Venezia 5), brings together more than 200 works from the National Museum in Kraków and offers a full overview of the artist’s career, from traditional prints to his groundbreaking series.

Highlights

  • Iconic prints such as "The Great Wave" and views of Mount Fuji.
  • Ukiyo-e series that trace Hokusai's stylistic development.
  • Rare books, musical instruments, armor, swords and traditional costumes that enrich the historical and cultural narrative.
  • Works illustrating Hokusai's impact on European visual culture and movements like Impressionism.
