Franciacorta, a land of wonders located in Lombardy, offers its visitors natural spectacles and unmistakable local products.
Are you ready to discover it with us?
This hilly area, situated between Brescia and the southern end of Lake Iseo, is of uncertain etymology and toponymic origin. Franciacorta extends across 19 municipalities, today largely characterized by the presence of numerous vineyards.
From a landscape point of view, besides its many woodlands, the area is distinguished by several mountains, including Monte Orfano, which reaches a maximum altitude of 451 m. From a historical and cultural perspective, the region boasts numerous ancient sites such as monasteries, churches, abbeys, villas, and medieval castles — among them, the female monastery of San Salvatore, founded by the Lombard king Desiderius in 753.
An ancient activity already mentioned by classical authors such as Virgil and Pliny, viticulture in Franciacorta took on a new life only in the 1960s with the founding of the first wineries. Over the years, these have driven the area’s rapid development, transforming Franciacorta into a true benchmark in the world of winemaking.
Today, the region produces sparkling wine using the traditional method, recognized with the prestigious DOCG label. Many wineries open their doors to visitors, offering guided tours to learn about wine-making techniques, taste local varieties, and purchase their products directly.
